What happens if I install the new version of the Dropbox desktop application?

The new version of the Dropbox desktop application gives you the option to disable the Finder integration. Disabling this integration means that you won’t be able to get sync status icons next to your files, or access Dropbox menu options by right-clicking on files. The sync status of your files and folders will no longer be reflected in Finder, though as always you’ll be able to see these changes in the Dropbox website after you sign in the Dropbox mobile app.

I'm running Yosemite (and have been for a while) and suddenly new Dropbox files are not showing in Finder. They are syncing properly, and I can see this in the Dropbox recently updated menu in the top bar, and also on Terminal if I cd to a folder and ls -l. So they're there, they're just not showing up in Finder. Went to the Finder - Preferences and changed the 'New Finder windows show:' setting from 'All My Files' to my Home folder which is my Mac OS Login name. Then opened a Finder window and OneDrive is listed there along with my other folders like Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Dropbox etc.

  1. If enabling Finder integration and relinking the account does not fix the issue, try deleting and reinstalling the Dropbox app. Open the Applications folder in Finder and drag the Dropbox app to the Trash. Open the Trash and select Empty in the upper-right hand corner of the window. Click Empty again to confirm the deletion.
  2. Go to the Finder menu and select Preferences (Cmd+comma). In General, click on External disks to ensure that from now on it shows on the desktop.
